Welcome Kids!

We were thrilled to welcome three baby goats this month. Laura, our doe named after a favorite farm vet, delivered triplets on Sunday afternoon. The two bucklings and one doeling have been a fun addition to the farm and the first animals born here.

Laura is an experienced mom and delivered without any assistance. She does an excellent job of caring for her babies right away. I do help dry babies off since, even in April, our evenings get chilly. We watched until we were sure everyone had managed to nurse and then kept an eye on them from time to time from the goat cam we put in the maternity ward.

After two weeks or so, I’ll start milking Laura in the mornings and then letting her kids nurse during the day. This kind of milk share works well on our farm. Then cheese making can begin again in earnest!
